Workplace Safety in BC: Essential Practices, Awareness Checklist, and Resources

Purpose:
To help Small Business Owners, and Workplace Safety Professionals ensure that their workplace meets basic safety requirements in British Columbia Canada
Workplace Safety BC Checklist Items:
1. Health and Safety Policies
- [ ] Establish a written health and safety policy that reflects the commitment to workplace safety.
- [ ] Ensure the policy is accessible to all employees.
2. Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
- [ ] Form a JHSC if you have 20 or more workers.
- [ ] Ensure committee members receive appropriate training.
- [ ] Schedule regular meetings (at least monthly).
3. Safety Training
- [ ] Conduct safety training for all new employees.
- [ ] Provide ongoing safety training and refreshers for regular employees.
- [ ] Keep records of all training conducted.
4. Risk Assessment
- [ ] Carry out a risk assessment for all workplace activities.
- [ ] Identify potential hazards and document them.
- [ ] Create an action plan to mitigate identified hazards.
5. Emergency Preparedness
- [ ] Develop an emergency response plan that includes procedures for common emergencies.
- [ ] Ensure evacuation routes and exits are clearly marked and accessible.
- [ ] Conduct regular emergency drills.
6. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- [ ] Identify the need for PPE specific to workplace hazards.
- [ ] Provide proper PPE to all employees.
- [ ] Train employees on the correct use and maintenance of PPE.
7. Reporting and Documentation
- [ ] Implement a procedure for reporting workplace injuries and incidents.

8. Regular Inspections

9. Safety Communication
